La Pasión: A Tribute to the Spirit and Legacy of Mariachi
La Pasión is an annual lecture and performance event held during Mariachi Spectacular de Albuquerque, offering a deeper look into the rich traditions, history, and evolving artistry of mariachi music. Each year, the program is centered around a unique theme that celebrates key figures, cultural contributions, or defining moments in mariachi’s legacy.
In 2024, La Pasión featured a powerful lecture by Mark Fogelquist on the roots and evolution of mariachi, accompanied by a special performance from Mariachi Mujer 2000.
In 2025, the focus turned to “Don Rigoberto Alfaro: A Giant Among Giants,” honoring the monumental contributions of one of mariachi’s most legendary arrangers and composers.
